I’ve found it very rewarding having a mentor. He has continually challenged me and kept me on my toes so I keep developing as a leader. I believe that learning from an experienced leader will set me up for strong personal growth, and his mentoring has enabled me to be more independent, mature and resilient. The programme offers me support from managers and mentors while still empowering me to lead and deliver projects on my own.

GSK has been a delightful experience since the day I joined. I have come across interesting individuals from all walks of life who embody the principles of listening, giving and challenging everyone to improve themselves.

I appreciate being able to reach out to experienced leaders and stakeholders for advice, to help me troubleshoot a problem, or simply to discuss ideas. For example, in my Sales rotation, I was responsible for the respiratory portfolio in Kuala Lumpur city. I found it difficult to engage doctors in scientific discussions initially, so I approached my manager for support. He coached me on the kind of questions that build empathy and rapport and helped me practice these techniques. This built up my confidence and helped me establish trust with the doctors in my territory.

The programme offers me support from managers and mentors while still empowering me to lead and deliver projects on my own. I had experience of this in my second rotation in Sales Excellence & Training. I was given the task of creating and delivering training materials on the newly-acquired Menveo vaccine to cascade to the sales team and launch the product.

I had less than a month to do this, so I quickly built my knowledge of immunology and vaccinology, discussed the project with interns with a pharma background, and asked my line manager to coach me to design an effective training programme for the sales force. It was a real stretch, but I successfully delivered the training for 20 people, including sales leaders and professional medical representatives.

I relish this kind of challenge and continuous learning. This programme is designed so that I am empowered to explore and learn and deliver my best to achieve GSK’s business objectives.
