What’s this area all about?
Procurement is a pioneering, influencing function; with over 900 members across more than 50 countries we buy goods and services on a global scale. But we do more in global procurement than just purchase things. We partner with business units to drive value from supplier relationships to support GSK’s strategies and targets to ensure a secure supply in all areas of our business – from pharmaceutical development to consumer health products.
What is this career path like?
This two-year career path offers you an outstanding opportunity to support the commercial ambitions of GSK and progress your career into senior leadership roles in the pharmaceutical industry. You will receive a solid grounding in procurement management through a variety of challenging rotations across direct and indirect procurement with an international perspective that will push you to your limits. This will be underpinned by the appropriate levels of support and training.
You will be given direct responsibility to manage spend across various categories, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver value to your customer and ultimately the patient or consumer.
What will I learn?
By developing best practice procurement skills during the scheme, you’ll learn how to collaborate with our business partners and external supply chain to bring innovation and value to GSK. We’ll also learn from the enthusiasm and fresh thinking that you can bring to our organisation.
You’ll have the benefit of improving your procurement management skills in the fast-moving pharmaceutical industry. You’ll also gain valuable leadership training through a combination of mentoring, classroom sessions and on-the-job training.

What do I need to succeed?
Whatever your degree, you’ll need ambition, a genuine interest in procurement, the commercial world and the healthcare industry, and a self-motivated, proactive approach. We’re looking for clear, effective communicators who can quickly build a rapport with a wide range of people. It’s also important that you can adapt to change and keep focused when the pressure is on. While you’ll have the drive and confidence to trust your own judgement, you’ll also be a real team player who actively collaborates with others. In addition, you’ll need an inquisitive analytical mindset, a talent for multi-tasking and the ability to influence others. Highly desirable attributes also include language skills and cultural affinity.
